The first 07-07-07 happened before the invention of the modern calendar, so nobody celebrated. Two thousand years later, hyped up on marketing and media, this 07-07-07 is being touted as the luckiest day in our collective lifetimes.
The number 7 is auspicious in many cultures, says anthropology professor Phil Stevens of the State University of New York in Buffalo. Stevens thinks that's because of the 28-day lunar cycle, and the fact that, when they divided those 28 days into more manageable segments, ancient peoples usually created four seven-day weeks.

For their 10th anniversary the Steel Magnolias went all out with an inaugural golf event and the formation of a new men's committee.
The charter members of "The Stags," the men's committee, met Wednesday at the Long Beach Yacht Club to plan for the upcoming year. Forming the executive board are co-chairs Robert McKenna and John Faber, Ned Gaylord, John Knight, Randy Martin, Dave Neary, Harry Saltzgraver, Mark Stevens, Rocky Suares and Phil Trani.

WOOSTER -- Students from Dalton, Hillsdale, Northwestern and Waynedale high schools participated in the 2011 Tri-County High School Literary Contest, coordinated by Jamie Imhoff and Bobbie Singleton of the Tri-County Educational Service Center. NORFOLK - of the 1200 block of Rosefield Court died March 6, 2007, in Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital. Born in Jones County, Kinston, N.C., he retired from Haynes Furniture as a truck driver. He was a member of Quaker House Baptist Church and the widower of Delores Burney.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy B. Wilson and Arletha Jones, both of North Carolina and Rosetta Stevens of Jonesboro, Ga.; four sons, Christopher Burney of Georgia, Timothy Burney and Phil Burney, both of Norfolk and Ronald McCoy of Virginia Beach; a brother, Leo Burney of Maryland; 11 grandchildren, three great- grandchildren; a special friend, Joyce Freeman and a host of other relatives and friends.
