WAYNESVILLE -- Ken Fields' innovative approach to change the community pharmacy business model is why he said he was named the Pharmacist Entrepreneur of the Year by an industry publication. Fields, president of ApproxRx and owner of the Waynesville Pharmacy, is only four years removed from pharmacy school and is on a mission to change how community pharmacies operate, to give them a competitive advantage over the pharmacy chains. He describes it as "a transparent and pass-through prescription management company cutting out all the hidden costs and giving it back" to employers.
Fields was notified about two months ago he was a finalist for the category in the 2011 Next Generation Pharmacist Awards, and then flew to Boston for the Pharmacy Times' awards ceremony at the JFK Library.
