The son of Mayor Byron W. Brown will appear in court next week to face charges of attempting to steal less than $60 in electronic equipment and clothing from a North Buffalo store.
Byron W. Brown Jr., 19, was arrested at 11 p.m. Saturday on a petit larceny charge after he was accused of trying to leave the A. J. Wright store at 2638 Delaware Ave. without paying for several items in a shopping bag, authorities said.

A 19-year-old Medina man who was granted youthful offender status in 2008 after pleading guilty in a burglary case, was sentenced by County Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza to a year in the County Jail, less time served, for violating probation. The man had pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of petit larceny for entering his sister's Lockport apartment Dec. 3, 2007. He failed to pay $500 restitution and performed only nine of the 30 hours of community service he was ordered to work.

Nickolas J. Bailey, 25, of Akron Street, Lockport, was charged with petit larceny as Lockport police wrapped up their investigation of an Aug. 8 incident at Papa Leo's on Main Street. Manager Gary Chapman said a customer told him an employee might be stealing money from the cash register. A surveillance videotape showed Bailey handling a credit card transaction, opening the till and removing two $20 bills. Police said the tape showed Bailey crumpling up the money, walking to the back of the store and putting the bills into his pocket.

A teen was charged with the theft of a digital camera and told sheriff's deputies that he gave the camera to a friend to "get weed." The 17-year-old Town of Lockport resident was charged with petit larceny just after 1 a.m., after a family member reported that the teen had taken the camera and was trying to sell it, deputies said.
