Earlier this year the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA National) and The Rough Notes Company jointly created the PIA National Young Insurance Professional of the Year Award to recognize outstanding achievement by an individual under age 40. The award went to Peter Thornton of the Thornton Agency in Parsippany, NJ. PIA National President Ray L. Peretti said that encouraging young people to consider a career in the independent agency system must be a top priority for all of them. The historic homes of Georgetown intrigue visitors to the District and tempt many hopeful home buyers. Strolling slowly on some of Georgetown's quieter side streets provides a glimpse of the traditional homes and gardens that line this Northwest neighborhood's brick sidewalks. Tudor Place, a distinguished building on 31st Street Northwest since it was built in 1816, is a National Historic Landmark and a prime example of a Federal-style estate. Built by Martha Washington's granddaughter, Martha Custis Peter, and designed by architect William Thornton, the residence was the home of six generations of the Peter family.
Cheverus High will hold its second annual sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Black Point Inn in Scarborough. The inductees are James Honan, class of 1938; Brian Pettingill, class of 1981; Ernie Salamone, class of 1980; Clyt Theriault, class of 1936; and Peter Thornton, class of 1962.
The Charleston Calligraphers Guild will offer a two-day workshop presented by internationally known calligrapher Peter Thornton from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8, at the Main Street Studio, 2801 Main St. in Hurricane. The workshop, called "Lively Italic," is recommended for beginners who understand the fundamentals of calligraphy, as well as experienced calligraphers who want to improve their Italic skills.
