ANDREW - St. John's Catholic Church in Andrew conducted its final Mass at the church on July 9. The Archdiocese of Dubuque cited a decrease in Mass attendance, a diminishing number of clergy and decreased financial resources as reasons for closure.
St. John's and St. Peter's Church in Sabula learned in March that their churches would be closing. St. John's will merge with Sacred Heart in Maquoketa, and St. Peter's will merge with St. Joseph's in Preston.

CHESAPEAKE - Joan Ellen Cheney Mann died Dec. 20, 2010 after a long battle with cancer at the Sentara Nursing Home, Portsmouth.
She is survived by her son, Edward Warren Mann; her parents, Elmer and Gweneth Cheney; her siblings, Carol Preston (Robert), Barbara Cheney, John Cheney, James Cheney and wife Lorraine; her former husband, Peter Mann; her nieces, Nicole Preston, Amy Preston and Danielle Cheney.
