BANGOR Soldiers from the Maine 1136th Transportation Company who served in Kabul, Afghanistan, over the past year didnt build bridges or construct roads their typical job when sent into action. They created a secure working environment for fellow U.S. and coalition soldiers in the Afghan capitals Green Zone.
The 173 Maine Army National Guard citizen soldiers provided force protection at Camp Eggers and New Kabul Compound two of the most important headquarters in Afghanistan and did so without a single security incident in their 10-month deployment, a fact that makes Capt. Peter Carter, commander of the 1136th since October 2008, very proud.

A Matter of Life and Death (I prefer the American title, Stairway to Heaven) isn't the first heaven-made-a-mistake film. However, heavenly Conductor 71 (The Red Shoes's Marius Goring), a foppish 18th-century Frenchman, loses track of him in the English pea-soup fog, and Peter lands on a British beach, where he promptly meets June ([Kim Hunter]), the American WAC whose radioed voice he fell in love with just before jumping.
In one delightful scene, June and Peter are play...
