For Alexis Jenio of Clifton, onward and upward meant just one thing: backward. After years of working in corporate sales, she decided to go back to school and start all over.
I was terrified," she said. "It felt like jumping off a cliff.

Burlington author Suzanne Brue released The 8 Colors of Fitness last year. Its subtitle declares its mission: Discover Your Color-Coded Fitness Personality and Create an Exercise Program Youll Never Quit! Such breezy optimism smacks of a diet fad-ofthe-moment, but the 8 Colors idea is based on extensive research into personality types using the MyersBriggs Type Indicator. The popular "test" is based on Jungian personality theory, and Brue is, according to the book's foreword, an "expert practitioner" of the MBTI.
If you're the sort who chafes at the idea of being "typecast," this book may not be for you. But if you've been wondering why you can't stick to any exercise program, it can't hurt to find out whether you've been pursuing activities of the wrong color.

Personality type has been shown to impact student performance in introductory economics courses. However, research has yet to ascertain the degree to which this relationship might vary across course types. We utilize a one quarter survey course designed to cover the fundamentals of both microeconomics and macroeconomics in order to test the hypothesis that different personality types, as measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test, will excel in the two fields of study. We show that although a casual comparison of estimated coefficients across disciplines may imply differences in the role of type in the two fields, these differences are not supported by formal testing. We, therefore, find little support for the notion that the relationship between personality type and performance i...

Looking to get warmed up in time for Valentine's Day? How about taking part, as a couple, in a research project designed to test happiness in marriage? Graduate student Laura Yoder at the University of Maine is looking for 50 married couples to participate in a three-part survey that correlates psychological personality type with self-reported satisfaction in marriage.
Participants will take the classic Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test, a psychology standard that measures characteristics such as introversion, intuition, judgment and perception. Couples then will answer subjective questions, separately and anonymously, about the happiness of their marriage. The third part of the survey collects basic demographic data such as age, children, length of marriage and so forth.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was created in the 1940s by the mother-daughter team of Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, based on Carl Jung's psychological types. MBTI neatly categorizes everyone into one of 16 personality types, a combination of Extroversion-Introversion, Sensing-Intuition, Thinking-Feeling and Judging-Perceiving. Federal agencies have been using the test for decades in an attempt to improve management. Jeffery Hayes, co-president of the company that owns the Myers-Briggs, says government agencies account for about 20% of sales at CPP Inc of Mountain View CA. Myers-Briggs results are supposed to illuminate employee personalities and ease collaboration. At EPA, employees have become certified to analyze the results of the Myers-Briggs.

Today's Master Black Belt (MBB) training curriculum fails to address tomorrow's organizational needs. MBBs must help their organizations embed in their operations the three R's of business: Everyone in the organization is doing the right things and is doing them right at the right time. An MBB's ultimate objective is to help provide maximum, measurable, predictable and sustainable bottom-line results. For any MBB training process to be successful, students must gain hard and soft skills, business acumen and technical know-how. An MBB training program curriculum must include a thorough understanding of corporate finance and accounting. Consistent with their extraordinary responsibilities, MBBs require training that is broad based and business oriented. Indeed, training has to prepare the...
