We empirically surveyed and analyzed existing standards for the treatment of perpetrators of domestic violence across the United States. Specific areas examined included: presence and scope; administrative entity for certifying; screening and risk assessment protocols; minimum length of treatment; theoretical or conceptual orientation; treatment content; preferred or allowable modalities of treatment; whether research findings are mentioned; methods for revising standards; and minimum education and training required for providers. We examined trends using several methods including comparisons between present and previous survey data (Maiuro et al., 2001). Positive trends were evident including increased use of multivariate models of treatment content, use of an intake assessment prior t...

Despite equivocal findings on whether men or women are more violent, the negative impact of violence is greatest for women. To determine how gender asymmetry in perpetration affects women's health status, we conducted a study in two phases with 835 African American, Euro-American, and Mexican American low-income women in Project HOW: Health Outcomes of Women. In Phase 1, we used severity and frequency of women's and male partners' violence to create six groups: nonviolent (NV), uni-directional male (UM) perpetrator, uni-directional female (UF) perpetrator and, when both partners were violent, symmetrical (SYM), male primary perpetrator (MPP), and female primary perpetrator (FPP). The MPP group sustained the most threats, violence, sexual aggression, and psychological abuse. They also re...

Trial court erred when it denied defendants motion for a new trial. Newly discovered evidence concerning mannerisms and other personal characteristics of an alternative perpetrator of the rapes of which defendant was convicted was not inadmissible hearsay. And the newly discovered evidence creates a sufficient probability of a different result to justify a new trial. Reversed and Remanded. (Grady, P.J., concurring). (Hall, J., dissenting).

The prevalence of fraud and the wide array of fraudulent activities occurring in US businesses show a need to understand how people will react when confronted with situations involving fraudulent behaviors. Since businesses rely on tips to discover many frauds, and a sizable portion of those tips come from employees, it is critical for employees to be aware of what activities are considered fraudulent. If the act is not perceived by employees as wrong, the employees would be unlikely to report the activity. This study attempts to answer these questions through use of a questionnaire administered to undergraduate business students. The results...

Members of Westminster Presbyterian Church took time on Sunday to pray for the soul of a burglar who broke into the Hempfield house of worship late Friday or early Saturday.
It really is quite a shock to come in and find the church in the condition it was, with the broken glass and the damage to the closet door. But these burglars couldn't be too savvy, breaking into a church on a Friday," said the Rev. Donna Havrisko.

These immoral, illegal and inhumane crimes perpetrated by Israeli forces against the Palestinians on a daily basis prompted flan Pappe, the Israeli historian from Haifa university (who was later virtually expelled, and is now a professor at Exeter University, England) to say "I don't think there is one moral person in the world who supports what Israel stands for," (Yedioth Ahranot, March 16, 2008). I am sure the Australian Parliament, which lauded Israel and congratulated it on its 60th anniversary, is aware that the president of the Palestinian Parliament, Aziz al Douek, and 15 of his colleagues who were democratically elected in elections described by former President Jimmy Carter as democratic and transparent, have been imprisoned and tortured in Israeli jails for the last two years...
