HAZEL GREEN, Wis. - A teen was slightly injured in a two-car crash Tuesday afternoon in Hazel Green. Kelly Schlarmann, 16, of Hazel Green, suffered minor injuries in the collision, which occurred around 4:45 p.m. on North Percival Street at Curwen Lane, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Department.

Just after 2 p.m., the fire seemed to be completely out, and firefighters were clearing the scene when the fire on Percival Street broke out minutes later. In that fire, thick black smoke was pouring from the roof and windows, and the front of the two-family house was completely charred as firefighters tried to contain the blaze. Onlookers watched as smoke and later flames poked through the roof. The strain of fighting two major fires just minutes apart was apparent. One firefighter who had just exited the smoldering home, which sits on the north side of Percival Street between Winthrop Avenue and Carmel Street, got into a heated exchange with two neighborhood residents after they said it took the department too long to arrive at the fire and set up a water hose.

Students, families homeless after fires on Park, Percival streets Several families and students were left homeless Sunday by two fires, and three firefighters sustained minor injuries battling back- to-back, two-alarm blazes downtown and in the city's Hill neighborhood. Firefighters first responded to a fire about noon that gutted a Park Street apartment building. As soon as they extinguished that blaze, a fire broke out on Percival Street off Sherman Avenue, where flames poked out of the roof and completely melted siding along its face.
