LONDON, December 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of Nigeria, addressed students, industry leaders, and the press on the topic of "Emerging Markets Post 2008." The consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to lower corporate tax from the current high of 30 percent to a mere 10 percent. The former Vice President of Nigeria attested that his administration would create a solid foundation for Nigeria to become resistant to future crisis. Mr. Abubakar declared that he "would seek to deepen regional integration and diversify national economies to be globally competitive.
PARIS - The most significant and easily disregarded lesson of the successful Libyan uprising, as of the Egyptian and Tunisian risings that preceded it, is that the Arabs did it themselves. That is bad news for the United States. The issue of "R2P," so-called, has been current in American and European policy circles since the wars of Yugoslav succession found their genocidal climax in the killings at Srebrenica. Out of that came the proposition that democratic nations should accept the burden of a "responsibility to protect" vulnerable and endangered peoples, and even those being egregiously misgoverned. It assumed that Arab liberation comes from outside, not inside. It hasn't happened that way.
Freedom is a necessary precondition for development; without the civil liberties guaranteed in the constitutions of democratic states, decolonized peoples will remain impoverished and oppressed, trapped in a never-ending cycle of violence, much of it perpetrated by their own corrupt leaders.
His brilliant work dealing with studies on violence and psychic damage among oppressed peoples revealed the depth that human consciousness can be subjected to when under the control of repressive regimes. His best-selling books include "The Wretched of the Earth," "Black Skins, White Masks" and "A Dying Colonialism." Although these works were written more than four decades ago, they are still as relevant today as when he first wrote them. It is precisely for this reason that the organizers decided to show this splendid 52-minute documentary directed by Cheikh Djemai, in French and Arabic with English subtitles. [Frantz Fanon] is known for his analysis of racism and alienation, which he stated results in a lack of self-esteem, and his perspective of how protracted imperial and colonial v...

The candidates in the House District 125 race agree that the state should provide help to Mainers with rising energy costs. But both Rep. Ann Peoples and Robert Morrill, say individual communities can do more to take care of their own during the cold winter months. Peoples, the Democratic incumbent, faces Republican Morrill in the Nov. 4 election to represent the district covering a portion of Westbrook.
Multiculturalism has completely failed. That's the assessment of Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany, in a recent speech before the youth wing of her conservative political party, the Christian Democratic Union. The idea that disparate peoples can "simply live side by side and live happily with each other" has failed, she said. "Utterly failed.

For example, Robert Borosage, co-director of Campaign for America's Future, tells us that [Barack Obama] has "always been a cautious liberal." In other words, forget the Obama who earlier in his career supported single-payer universal healthcare, addressed an early anti-Iraq War rally and spoke at a forum sponsored by the Young Democratic Socialists of America from the University of Chicago. These Friends of Obama who apologize for his every rightward deviation also have their radical counterparts-the chronically disgruntled who eschew Democratic Party politics, invoke an ever-elusive "peoples power" and dismiss Obama in the spirit of knowing cynicism. On Jan. 15, during a primary debate in South Carolina, CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked the candidates, "If Dr. Martin Luther King were alive to...
Yet, as the response to [Barack Obama]'s speech and presence demonstrated, the world simply refuses to lower its expectations of America. The American Dream, the American promise, is so grand, so liberating that peoples across the world won't let us despoil it. Bring us your huddled masses who yearn to breathe free. E Pluribus Unum- from many we become one. Many peoples, many races, many languages and cultures, one democratic country. Freedom, shared dignity, equal opportunity enshrined as a promise and an aspiration. A government by the people, of the people and for the people, sworn to protect the liberties of minorities, of die poorest or the least popular. Presidential abuses, wrong-headed policies, bad wars and economic turbulence have made America unpopular now and in the past. Bu...
