PSC delays 'smart' meter installationThe Maryland Public Service Commission on Thursday issued an interim order allowing people who are opposed to so-called "smart" electric meters to defer installation until the PSC makes a final decision on whether to allow customers to opt out of having a meter installed at all. Effective immediately, the order applies to customers who notify regional utilities in writing that they oppose the installation or activation of the meters. Baltimore Gas & Electric Co., Potomac Electric Power Co. and Delmarva Power have permission from the PSC to replace older analog meters with the energy-conserving digital meters. However, many customers have concerns about their safety and health effects.
