norfolk People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has made a juicy offer to the owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken. But Yum Brands Inc., parent company of KFC and Taco Bell, isn't biting.
The company was seeking to buy PETA's property at 20th Street and Monticello Avenue for $1 million. PETA offered to turn over the vacant warehouse for free. In exchange, the animal rights group wanted KFC to implement several changes to address what PETA calls abusive practices the chain's suppliers use to raise and slaughter 850 million chickens a year.

LEWISBURG - A video released by an animal rights group claims to show horrific abuse of turkeys at West Virginia farms operated by major global poultry grower Aviagen Inc.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the video, which includes workers stomping on turkeys' heads and twisting their necks to kill them, was shot by an undercover investigator who worked on the companies' farms for more than two months.

DES MOINES (AP) - An animal rights organization is getting help from actress Bea Arthur in calling attention to what it says is the abuse of cattle at a kosher slaughterhouse in Postville, Iowa. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals alleges that Agriprocessors Inc. has violated state law that requires the use of humane methods of slaughter.
The (Orthodox Union) has defended the abuse at AgriProcessors, and I am concerned that it has not moved more quickly to publicly affirm that Judaism does not tolerate the kind of cruelty that PETA has documented," Arthur said in the letter, which was provided to The Associated Press late Thursday.
