The resolution suggesting a boycott of Israeli professors who do not "publicly disassociate themselves" from "continuing Israeli apartheid policies," passed by a vote of 106-71. It took place at the union's annual conference in Blackpool, England.
One of the boycott's primary proponents is Stephen Rose, a 68 year old Jew who grew up Orthodox, and Zionist, in London. He is the dean of the Biology faculty at the Open University of Britain. He explained that as "the boycott in South Africa proved itself... effective against the apartheid policies there," an "academic boycott on Israeli institutions could prove to be a powerful element in speeding up a possible change.

Financial Executives Institute Canada has published the results of its new studies on Canadian pension plans and workers' compensation. The 11th edition of the 'Survey of Pension Plans in Canada' explores the main components of defined-benefit and defined-contribution plans in the country and how plan sponsors are responding to legislative and market changes. The study reveals the increasing popularity of defined-contribution plans, the financial stability of defined-benefit plans, the growing foreign investment holdings of pension plans and the periodic increases in retiree benefits by the plans.
