A ratings agency changed the outlook for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission from "stable" to "negative" because of concerns about toll hikes and the commission being forced to shoulder more of the state's transportation burdens.
The negative outlook on the bonds reflects the possibility that larger than currently forecast toll rate increases will be necessary to maintain sound financial operations" and cover debt payments, Moody's wrote in an Oct. 18 report.

A Butler County man claims in a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission violated the American with Disabilities Act by firing him while he was in an alcohol rehabilitation program.
Mark Schmidt of Mars said he notified the commission when he entered the program in January 2009. The commission fired him, reinstated him in March and fired him again in April, the lawsuit states. The commission knew he was an in-patient and couldn't show up for work, and it used his absence as a pretext to fire him, the lawsuit states.

HARRISBURG -- Mitchell Rubin's status as chairman of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission appears to be in jeopardy.
Gov. Ed Rendell took the initial steps to determine whether he can and should remove Rubin as his appointee to the board overseeing the nation's oldest superhighway, Rendell spokesman Chuck Ardo said Thursday.
