For the first part of their baby-naming party Saturday morning at Shelby Farms, the herd of buffalo grazed, stood or lay around ignoring the humans straining at the fence line to get their attention. Then rangers drove into the pasture with buffalo chow. The herd sprang to life, dust flying as they stampeded across the pasture like they were starving. They eat 400 to 500 pounds of chow a day, said park ranger and buffalo keeper Benn Holden.
