But the upshot of such changes across the country often is more hunters spending more time - and money - pursuing deer. The emotional ceremony at Dodger Stadium on Friday honoring Pasadena's native son (and my personal favorite sports hero) Jackie Robinson brought me to tears. Clearly what this man meant to baseball transcends sports and represents a great portion of the fabric of our nation's culture.
However, the lack of interest among fellow African Americans as evidenced by their lack of attendance at this event and in their lack of participation in the sport of baseball in general is a crying shame. Sitting in the field level near the right-field foul pole, it seemed as if there were more on the field participating in the festivities with Jackie's widow Rachel than there were in the stands.
