A full-time teacher's part-time coaching job isn't protected under the Family Medical Leave Act, the Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled in reversing a $332,000 award. The teacher worked as a part-time assistant football coach pursuant to a contract which was separate from his employment as a teacher.

RIDGEFIELD -- A letter sent to 86 classroom aides and several teachers by the district superintendent this week said they would "not be offered a contract" for the coming school year, and that their "employment with the district" would end June 30.
