Chinese authorities shut two unauthorized Apple Inc. stores in Kunming for operating without business licenses, a newspaper run by the southwestern city's government reported. Investigators also examined three other stores that used Apple's logo without the company's permission, though they were found to have operating permits, according to the Dushi Shibao newspaper report posted today on the Kunming government's website. The findings were part of a probe into more than 300 electronics vendors in the city, the report said.

On June 3, the Sunday Harrisburg Patriot-News ran a front-page report by Jan Murphy noting Gov. Corbett's misplaced priorities. This was the gist of the criticism: "The governor has resisted taxing Marcellus shale natural gas drillers and wants to slash business taxes by $300 million. At the same time, he proposed drastic cuts in money for schools and cut off a state-subsidized health insurance program for nearly 42,000 low-income adults." Corbett made his decisions to cover a $4 billion shortfall. I'm not sure what was wrong with the health-insurance cutback. I do know that low-income adults can avail themselves of Medicaid - and once they reach a certain age, they can tap into Medicare. The Port of Vancouver on Wednesday highlighted its 2010 accomplishments and looked ahead at jobs that will come as it invests in rail and other infrastructure improvements.
