The northwest corner of Balboa Park in downtown San Diego is an oasis of pine trees, a pool, a tiny amphitheater, an archery range, a rifle range, an activity center for knot-tying plus several campsites. Ordinarily, the 15.6 acres that has been leased to the Boy Scouts of America since 1957 is a restful spot and an easy commute for residents who want a quick escape to parkland within city limits. The Boy Scouts have invested at least $5 million in the park, which is open to the public.
Last month, Harsch Investment Properties purchased the Brown Deer Park, a San Diego, Calif., industrial business park totaling 47,738 square feet for $6.2 million. Located just five minutes east of Interstate 805 and Mira Mesa Boulevard, the two-building business park is comprised of a 34,070- square-foot multi-tenant industrial building and a 13,668-square- foot, two-story office building. Tenants of the 3.2-acre park, purchased from Mark Nicol of Nicol Investment Co., include Malin Space Science Systems and Gordon Rush Shoes. Nicholas Psyllos and Dean Asaro of CB Richard Ellis in San Diego represented both parties in the transaction.
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres' Tony Gwynn Jr., received praise for a heads-up play, but Dodgers manager Joe Torre gave credit where credit was due. Left-hander Clayton Richard (8-5) and four relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Padres beat the Dodgers 6-1. The Padres beat the Dodgers for the first time in five games at Petco Park this season and for the second time in seven games overall.
This is what a theme park built for children looks like: Kids are driving slow one-seater toy cars while their parents watch from the sidelines. They are steering boats, turning water cannons on each other, playing with Lego toys while their parents hold their place in line for a ride. The roller coasters are not too high, not too fast. There are no teens necking in dark corners. The park is Legoland California, near San Diego.
