Vanderburgh County's St. Joseph Catholic Church has a long- standing relationship with St. James Parish, located in the northern coastal city of Plaine du Nord, Haiti. St. Joseph parishioners have been helping support this Haitian community for twenty-five years. Starting in 2005, they started sending mission trips there twice a year.
The most recent problem the people of Plaine du Nord are facing is cholera. On February 4-7, a team of four Evansville Helping Haiti committee members-Mike Whicker, Amanda McBride, Greg Head, and Dr. Steven Elliott-flew to the city to conduct water testing, check on the ongoing cholera clinic, and deliver some shoes to school children.
