  • This study assesses the relationship between an owner's characteristic decisiveness and the performance of his or her business in a sample of small business owners who started new childcare ventures. Decisiveness was found to be positively related to performance. This finding was contrary to expectations of a negative relationship based on prior research related to the effects that the need for cognitive closure have on decision-making processes. One possible explanation for this unexpected result is that often a somewhat intuitive decision-making process is often adequate, particularly for the less complex venture. In such a case, the additional expenditure of time and other resources required to conduct a more normative logic-based decision-making process may result in fewer of these ...

  • Indicted restaurant owner Eva Christian staged a burglary at her Washington Twp. home in October 2009 only five weeks after she emerged from personal bankruptcy that liquidated $1.4 million in debts, according to prosecutors and court records. Montgomery County prosecutors have not discussed the charges facing the owner of the Boulvard Haus restaurant, which stem from a break-in at her residence, and a second burglary she reported two months later at another restaurant she owned. But U.S. Bankruptcy Court records paint a grim picture of severe financial distress Christian and her businesses faced in the months before and after she is accused of defrauding insurers of more than $100,000.

Robin Shamblen is trying to get to the bottom of this mystery. Her husband found the ring while installing a wrought iron fence in front of their house in South Hills a few years ago. She finally got around to trying to track down the original owner about a month ago. I made a feeble attempt at one point to find who it belonged to, but ...
