The international community should take up the struggle left behind by Nigerian writer and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa upon his execution by the Nigerian government on false charges of inciting to murder. Saro-Wiwa was a vocal opponent of the Nigerian government's policy on the Ogoni tribe, of which he was an influential figure. In particular, he had attacked Royal/Dutch Shell for its callous exploitation of Ogoniland's oil resources. It is only proper for nations everywhere to defend Saro-Wiwa's legacy by speaking out against the Nigerian government and Royal/Dutch Shell.
