Nitro City Council members passed a resolution Tuesday night to establish overtime payment policy until appropriate ordinances can be passed. Under the resolution, employees on paid leave who are called in off hours will be paid time and a half.
According to Councilman Craig Matthews, the resolution is a temporary measure to standardize overtime payment while the ordinance committee is revising the entire employee handbook.

A federal judge on Friday ordered Pittsburgh to pay $825,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by police officers who claim they were paid less in overtime than they were entitled to over a three-year period.
The lawsuit was filed by Dan O'Hara, president of Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1 of the Fraternal Order of Police, on behalf of more than 900 officers who were entitled to a shift differential and longevity payment when overtime pay was calculated during 2006, 2007 and 2008, according to the suit.
