It is a well-known fact that corruption impacts negatively on a country's investment climate. In a nutshell, corruption stagnates economic growth, impedes the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) and weakens a country's competitiveness.
In the case of Malaysia, the battle against corruption is never- ending, more so with the 2010 Transparency International (TI)'s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score pointing to a slight drop from 4.5 to 4.4 while the country's ranking remains the same as in 2009 - at 56 out of 178 countries.

Recidivism among drug offenders in Florida is examined using economic theories to assess the impact of constraints and incentives, and individual characteristics such as gender, race and age appear to carry more weight than employment or local earnings. Offenders with non-drug related crime histories appear to be more likely to recidivate than those with no such record, though marital status and local population density to not appear to be significant. Imprisonment appears to be more of a deterrent than probation. Policies which simply impose harsher sentences, however, ignore the difference between offenders involved in other crimes, and offenders solely involved in drug offences, for whom longer sentences are not appropriate.
