MGIC took a beating on Wall Street Tuesday, a day after disclosing that lenders demanded their $550 million back from a subprime venture nicknamed C-BASS. MGIC and its C-BASS partner, Radian Group Inc. of Philadelphia, might lose their entire $1 billion-plus investment - not because the operation is unprofitable but because lenders have gotten badly burned on similar operations, company officials said.
