SYLMAR - Hoping to alleviate the growing number of unnecessary emergency department visits, county officials will open a $10 million mental health urgent care center in Sylmar on Thursday.
The 10,800-square-foot facility, built on the Olive View Medical Center's sprawling campus, will offer care for walk-in patients suffering from anxiety, depression, schizophrenia and a range of other issues.

ST. PAUL, Minn. | The federal judge handling the lawsuit against the NFL ordered the sides to participate in court-supervised mediation, while saying Monday she still is considering whether to grant the players' request for a preliminary injunction to lift the lockout.
S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson said formal mediation will begin Thursday before Chief Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan at his office in a Minneapolis courthouse. He will meet with representatives of the players today, then representatives of the NFL on Wednesday.

A new Giant Eagle supermarket will open Thursday in the Glenshaw section of Shaler, directly across Route 8 from the current, smaller store.
The new Giant Eagle will have a cafe area with six-pack beer sales, a pet department, a child learning and activity area and expanded grocery offerings including more prepared and fresh foods. The staff of 340 includes about 100 new hires.

LEWISBURG - When the Greenbrier Valley Welcome and Interpretive Center opens Thursday, it will represent the culmination of years of planning, along with a healthy portion of luck, according to Kara Dense, executive director of the local convention and visitors bureau.

The Allegheny County Treasurer's Office will remain open until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, the last day for homeowners to qualify for a 2-percent discount on their county property taxes.
Homeowners also can receive the discount if their mailed payment is postmarked no later than March 31. For those who don't pay by Thursday, the full amount of their county tax bill is due by May 2. After that, a late fee of 5 percent of the bill is assessed, and it increases 1 percent each month after that.
