Talent - and, yes, practice - is critical, of course. But connections can be key in getting to Carnegie Hall. They were for Dennis Malfatti and members of five Tri-State choruses he'll conduct this weekend in what is arguably the nation's most famous auditorium.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel said Monday his injured left shoulder feels better and he expects to play Saturday vs. Wake Forest. Manuel, who played at Bayside High in Virginia Beach, injured his non-throwing shoulder in a loss to Oklahoma on Sept. 17. He has done some light passing indoors with FSU trainers. He threw in practice Monday for the first time since the injury as the No. 23 Seminoles (2-2, 0-1 ACC) prepare for Saturday's game at Wake Forest (3-1, 2- 0). The quarterback said he is "feeling a whole lot better than I was two weeks ago this time. My range of motion, my strength and all of my other stuff is back. Don't worry, the VCU-Butler University basketball contest of underdogs doesn't tip off until 6:09 p.m. Saturday. Even if you consider that must-see TV, there will still be plenty of time to bring home a full stringer of fish on Lancaster County's opening day of trout season. The county, of course, is one of 18 southeastern counties that for the last four years have had a two-week jump on the rest of the state. Their trout opener is Saturday, April 16.
By CHUCK McGILL DAILY MAIL SPORTSWRITER HUNTINGTON What is DeAndre Kanes ceiling as a basketball player? Thats a dangerous word, especially for him, Marshall Coach Tom Herrion said as he tilted back in the chair in his Henderson Center office, his eyes widening slightly as he thought about Kane on the court. Hes got a boatload of upside. Hes gifted because hes so versatile, can play a number of positions and does a little bit of everything for us. Kane is a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Pittsburgh who sat out last season as an NCAA partial qualifier, and has generated plenty of buzz since he stepped onto campus last fall. On Saturday night, after much anticipation, he will get his first crack against a Division I basketball team when Chattanooga (1-2) visits Marshall (2-0) at 7:30. Herrion, ...
