When we talk about Islamic design, we're not talking about figures or faces," she added. "Muslims are big on architecture." And, by that same definition, design, from the diminutive Prophet's mosque constructed in crystal to the three-dimensional sand paintings by Egyptian artist A. Morsi, which reveal more detail with each pass of the eye. Of the many artists and artworks on display, [Magda Bayoumi] explained that "even though they are all Muslim, everyone still keeps their traditions in their own way. It does represent the culture, because we're not taking it from one country, we're taking it from every one, even America.

Re online story, "Dr. Laura apologizes for using the "N-word," is it enough?," Aug. 13: The topic could have been discussed without actually using the word the caller found offensive.
The "N-word" is a word. Words do not create meaning -- they are random letters strung together. We as humans give these words meaning, whether contextual (how they were using it on the show) or the dictionary definition (ignorant person, regardless of race). Dr. Laura's right about the hypersensitivity, though. America needs to get their backbone back and stop crying and tattling to "mommy and daddy" (government, NAACP, ACLU, etc.).

Over the past year, the low-income housing tax credit program has undergone a notable transformation. State agencies have been laboring to interpret the new provisions, and have been issuing policy memos to respond to the changes. On the compliance side, some of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HEAR) provisions can present difficulties or confusion for site managers and staff who do not know about or do not fully understand just what all of these changes entail. Currently, projects placed in service during 2006, 2007, or 2008, and which are located in a non-metropolitan area within the Gulf Opportunity Zone are able to use the greater of the median gross income standard or the national non-metropolitan gross income standard. For 9 percent LIHTC sites located in certain ru...

The Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing Act of 2009 (HEARTH Act), enacted into law on May 20, 2009, consolidates three of the separate homeless assistance programs administered by HUD under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act into a single grant program, revises the Emergency Shelter Grants program and renames the program the Emergency Solutions Grants program, and creates the Rural Housing Stability program to replace the Rural Homelessness Grant program. The HEARTH Act also codifies in law the Continuum of Care planning process, long a part of HUD's application process to assist homeless persons by providing greater coordination in responding to their needs. This final rule integrates the regulation for the definition of ``homeless,'' and the correspon...

UNITED NATIONS -- The U.N. General Assembly adopted a long- awaited strategy to combat terrorism on Friday, though many nations lamented that it does not include a definition or say anything about states that commit terrorist acts.
The document, adopted by consensus, is the result of a year of often bitter work to meet world leaders' demands that the United Nations help its 192 members fight the scourge.

Micro enterprises (firms with less than nine employees) represent an increasingly important component of the economy. The United States literature typically defines small businesses as having less than 500 employees, incorporating micro firms into this broader definition. Although there has been a diversity of studies focusing on small and medium sized enterprise supply chain management, there has been insufficient research on micro entities. Thus, little is known about supply chain management in micro ventures. This study develops a profile of micro enterprise supply chain management practices, the factors that encourage or discourage the implementation of supply chain management activities, and the impact of these supply chain activities on firm performance. The findings of this study...

Some people are questioning Sen. Barack Obama's patriotism because he doesn't wear an American flag pin on his lapel ("Dropping his pin," Inside Politics, Friday). This is . A gesture that small should never be confused with actually doing something meaningful.
It's like the folks who buy a $3 sticker for their car and then act like they've made a substantive contribution to the war on terror. Putting a flag on your car or coat is just about the dictionary definition of "the least you can do.
