Fees paid by Indian tribes to the state climbed 6.1 percent in April, according to the Office of State Finance. Oklahoma's 29 gaming tribes contributed nearly $10.9 million to the state in April, which is the latest information available, said Jim McGoodwin, deputy director of the Office of State Finance.
The announcement by state officials that Oklahoma's Rainy Day Fund will be replenished with a $219 million deposit is a sign the Oklahoma economy is much stronger - but it's not out of the woods yet. Scott Meacham is moving out of the state Office of Finance and Revenue and into the Oklahoma state treasurer's office. Meacham, who has served as director of the Office of State Finance and the governor's secretary of finance and revenue for the past two years, has been named the new state treasurer. Meacham replaces Robert Butkin, who is resigning from the post to serve as dean of the University of Tulsa's College of Law. Butkin's last day as treasurer is May 31.
