WASHINGTON, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. natural gas market is going to have to change dramatically for pipeline developers to salvage their plan to ship gas from Alaska to the Lower-48 states, a key federal official said today at the Platts Energy Podium.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- The heavily indebted Dubai World is not guaranteed by the emirate's government, a top financial official from the city state said today, offering little direction to anxious investors on a day when the United Arab Emirates registered a record fall on the back of Dubai's debt mess.
On the first day of trading since news of Dubai World's debt crunch became public, Dubai's main stock exchange dropped more than 7 percent while the Abu Dhabi exchange fell more than 8 percent -- the steepest fall in at least a year, according to brokers.

The local homebuilding industry's long slide shows no sign of abating soon, but there are pockets of construction that offer some consolation to builders.
Permits for homes, condos and apartments have declined every year since 2004, when the industry peaked locally, according to data from the Home Builders Association of Dayton.
