BAGHDAD - As one, the stony faces broke into a free-for-all of kisses, hugs and tears on Monday as the 50 women who called themselves the Lioness group became the first female graduates of Iraq's police officer training academy.

Albert W. "Bud" Austin Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2011 surrounded by his family. Bud was born in Seattle on Oct. 2, 1923, to parents Albert Sr., and Elizabeth Fredson Austin. He lived in Seattle and Puyallup for his first 10 years until moving with his parents, grandparents, and two sisters to the apple ranch in Selah. After graduating from Selah High School in 1941, he attended Washington State University along with his older sister Janice until joining the Navy in 1943. After completing Officer Training School, he was assigned to the Pacific Fleet preparing for the invasion of Japan.

Cadet attitudes have changed in response to a sweeping overhaul of the officer training school after the 2003 sexual assault scandal, the Air Force Academy said Monday.

NORFOLK - Robert Lee Consolvo, a retired minister of the United Methodist Church, passed away May 2, 2008. He was born in Norfolk Nov. 27, 1915, to the late George B. and Lilla Harrison Consolvo. He graduated from Maury High School in 1935, enrolled in Randolph- Macon College and completed three years before joining the Navy in 1941, where he served throughout World War II.
As a seaman on the USS Hornet-CV8, Robert witnessed the takeoff of Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, leading 16 B-25 medium bombers to bomb Tokyo and other nearby cities. He was onboard this ship in the "Battle of Midway" in which four Japanese carriers were sunk, an action that turned the war around.
