Gov. David A. Paterson this week signed into law a bill that changes the name of the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities to the state Office For People With Developmental Disabilities.
The legislation removes the words "mental retardation" from the agency's name and from state statutes and regulations, and took effect immediately.
