David Jensen complains about our air quality (Readers' Forum, Jan. 16). He wants us all to "change our role in causing" the toxic condition of the air we breathe. I am sure David is willing to set the example for all us by: not wearing any clothes or shoes, walking everywhere and never using electricity or heating his home in the winter.
The thing is, we all want a clean environment and air, but we also need to live. Mr. Jensen is good at telling everyone else how bad they are, but he doesn't offer any reasonable solutions.

It was almost a year ago that Yakima County commissioners moved toward setting up a groundwater management area for the Lower Valley. In the wake of a 2008 series of stories in the Yakima Herald- Republic, "Hidden Wells, Dirty Water," commissioners signed a contract with the state Department of Ecology to hire a hydrogeologist, define the boundaries of the area, figure pollution sources and develop enforcement actions against them.
The next step will come at an Aug. 30 hearing conducted by the state Department of Ecology in Sunnyside. The proposed 512-square- mile management area would stretch from Union Gap to Benton City and take in areas east and north of the Yakima River. It would not include any land on the Yakama Indian Reservation.
