Prosecutors rested their case against Pasadena-based Arshak Kouladjian, and his brother Vartan Kouladjian, who are accused of bribing Bob Page, former Fifth District chief of staff, in 2007 and 2008.

A special House-Senate committee endorsed proposed rules Wednesday for drilling in West Virginia's part of the Marcellus shale natural gas reserve, following a months-long drafting process, but a top aide to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's office says the bill is not ready for special session consideration.
Chief of Staff Rob Alsop said Tomblin and his staff will meet over the next few weeks with legislative leaders and key players in the Marcellus debate to "to see what they're comfortable with, and see what we're comfortable with.

The chief of staff for Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin called state Treasurer John Perdue last week and asked him to call the Troopers Association and ask that they remove a photograph of Perdue and association members from the association's website.
Association President John Smith and former president and current board member Joe Adams have both been involuntarily transferred after they appeared in a photo endorsing Perdue in the upcoming gubernatorial primary election.

President Obama said Monday that White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley is stepping down at the end of this month and will be replaced by Jacob J. Lew, director of the Office of Management and Budget, who will lead the president's team in a difficult re-election year.
Mr. Daley delivered his letter of resignation to the president late last week, noting that it was time for him to return to his hometown of Chicago. The transition will occur late this month to allow time for Mr. Lew to finish the administration's budget proposal for Congress and allow Mr. Daley to help write the president's State of the Union address to Congress.
