  • BOSTON - A Massachusetts man who stole more than $1 million from Ocean Spray Cranberries, then faked his own disappearance in California, was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday after a company representative called him "callous" and "evil" for stealing from struggling cranberry growers. James Repetto, 54, of Sandwich, set off a two-day Coast Guard search after a friend told lifeguards in San Diego that he did not return from a 2-mile swim. At the time, Repetto, a former Ocean Spray plant manager, was awaiting sentencing on fraud charges for a scheme that cost the Lakeville-based company $1.3 million. Repetto was arrested five days later in Yuma, Ariz.

  • Ocean Spray 100 Percent Fruit & Veggie Juice. Tropical Citrus, Cranberry Strawberry Banana, Light Tropical Citrus, and Light Cranberry Strawberry Banana. $3.99 per 64-ounce bottle. Bonnie: Ocean Spray has added veggies to its fruit juices so that the drinks contain more nutrients per calorie. The new regular Fruit & Veggie juices are chock full of antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, and contain two full servings of fruit and veggies in one 130-calorie, 8- ounce glassful. The flavors blend well, making each a palatable, not- too-sweet drink. On the other hand, the light versions have only one fruit and veggie serving, 60 calories and the aftertaste of sucralose, the artificial sweetener used to reduce the calories. I recommend only the regular versions.

  • Ocean Spray Pomegranate Juice Drinks. Cran-Pomegranate, Light Cran-Pomegranate, Diet Cranberry Pomegranate, and Ruby Pomegranate. $3.59 per 64-ounce bottle. Cran-Pomegranate and Ruby Pomegranate are also available in 10-ounce and 12-ounce sizes. Bonnie: Got some teetotalers coming for Thanksgiving? Ocean Spray has a new line of vitamin C-enriched pomegranate-cranberry juice blends and one pomegranate-ruby grapefruit blend that could serve as a nonalcoholic aperitif. At least two of them could. The light and diet versions are not to my liking, as they contain the artificial sweeteners, sucralose and acesulfame potassium that leave a horrid aftertaste. (The diet contains only 5 calories; the light, 40.) The Cranberry Pomegranate and Ruby Pomegranate are better but still not as good as ori...

  • United States Court of Appeals For the First Circuit No. 98-1948 OCEAN SPRAY CRANBERRIES, INC., Plaintiff, Appellant, v. PEPSICO, INC., Defendant, ...

  • LAKEVILLE, Mass., Dec. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Spray today added five additional Best By code dates to its voluntary recall issued November 25, 2011 of a limited number of production lots of its Original Flavor Craisins(R) Dried Cranberries in 5-ounce, 10- ounce and 48-ounce packages in the western U.S. only. Ocean Spray took this precautionary measure due to the possible presence of very small hair-like metal fragments that are unlikely to cause consumer injury. The additional five recalled lots were only shipped to retailers in the following eight western U.S. states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington.

  • Ocean Spray Instant Oatmeal. Cranberry, Cranberry Pomegranate, Cranberry Honey Multigrain, and Cranberry Orange Muffin. $3.51 per box of eight 1.51-ounce packets. Bonnie: I was apprehensive about testing these new instant oatmeals from Ocean Spray, assuming they'd be laden with the artificial sweeteners that this company has been adding to almost all its new juices. This turned out not to be the case. Ocean Spray has sweetened these with real sugar -- about the same amount as in Quaker instant oatmeals. I prefer unsweetened plain oatmeal, although I know I'm in the minority on this.

  • Dear Martin: What was Ocean Spray thinking when they changed their can for jellied cranberry sauce? You can no longer open the round bottom of the can, only the top. I like to open both ends and push the cranberry sauce onto the plate so that it remains intact. I can then cut it into slices instead of breaking it apart. This is not always possible when you can open only the top. Is there any chance they will go back to the old style of can so we can open both ends? - Barbara M., via e-mail Dear Barbara: They are not going back to the old-style cans. An Ocean Spray representative told me that removing the bottom lid and seal, and replacing it with a round bottom, saves 20 percent on the cost of the materials for making the can. The round bottom also stacks better and results in fe...
