• Mass. Man Gets 5 Years in $1.3m Ocean Spray Theft

BOSTON - A Massachusetts man who stole more than $1 million from Ocean Spray Cranberries, then faked his own disappearance in California, was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday after a company representative called him "callous" and "evil" for stealing from struggling cranberry growers. James Repetto, 54, of Sandwich, set off a two-day Coast Guard search after a friend told lifeguards in San Diego that he did not return from a 2-mile swim. At the time, Repetto, a former Ocean Spray plant manager, was awaiting sentencing on fraud charges for a scheme that cost the Lakeville-based company $1.3 million. Repetto was arrested five days later in Yuma, Ariz.

Bonnie: I was apprehensive about testing these new instant oatmeals from Ocean Spray, assuming they'd be laden with the artificial sweeteners that this company has been adding to almost all its new juices. This turned out not to be the case. Ocean Spray has sweetened these with real sugar -- about the same amount as in Quaker instant oatmeals. I prefer unsweetened plain oatmeal, although I know I'm in the minority on this.

Dear Martin: What was Ocean Spray thinking when they changed their can for jellied cranberry sauce? You can no longer open the round bottom of the can, only the top. I like to open both ends and push the cranberry sauce onto the plate so that it remains intact. I can then cut it into slices instead of breaking it apart. This is not always possible when you can open only the top.
