United Way has had a 40-year history of recognizing our area's outstanding volunteers, including the Celebrate Volunteers event, which began in 1995. The HomeTown Heroes event, which began in 2000, was a partnership between United Way of Oakland County, Lighthouse of Oakland County and the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers to honor volunteers in Oakland County. The new event will encompass all volunteers from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties and is expected to be one of the largest volunteer recognition events in the nation.
