That, Columbus, is the very essence of responsibility. That's the spirit we need in this country right now, no matter what our role is or what our profession that we've chosen. It's a spirit that asks us to look beyond our own individual ambitions to the wider obligations we have as the good citizens of a great Nation, a spirit that calls on us to say, "I'll make that sacrifice. I'll do that job.

Thank you to stranger for gift We were in the east side mall this week and we stopped by the sports store. While in there, a gentleman was talking to my husband Jim about the Green Bay Packers, of which my husband and the gentleman's wife are diehard fans, and he picked up a Champion hat and put it on the counter and said, "Here, this is for you," to my husband and continued to pay for it. It was an expensive hat. My husband was shocked that a complete stranger would buy him a hat. We are from Peoria but like to come to Bloomington to shop every once in a while. We just wanted to say thank you very much to the man who bought the hat. God Bless your family. Saturday marked both International Human Rights Day and one year since Chinese intellectual Liu Xiaobo received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work promoting human rights and democracy in China. Human Rights Day, which commemorates the 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), is an occasion to affirm our commitment to advancing the values of human rights common to us all. Nobel Laureate Liu's continued imprisonment in a Chinese jail is a stark reminder of the urgency of this task.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrines fundamental human rights standards, such as the freedoms of expression, association and religion and freedom from arbitrary detention. The Chinese government - a signatory to the declaration - disregards its obligations to uphold thos...

WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Committee for Camp Ashraf Residents (USCCAR) condemns ploys by the Iranian regime to undermine the internationally-endorsed peaceful, albeit fragile, resolution to the humanitarian crisis at Camp Ashraf in Iraq. USCCAR is alarmed by disturbing reports from Iraq indicating that the Iraqi government is already reneging on its agreement with the United Nations to uphold the human rights of Camp's residents and is building a prison in Camp Liberty to move our loved ones there.
The Committee calls on the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to immediately intervene and remind the Iraqi government of its obligations toward Camp Ashraf residents, consistent with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) it signed with the UN Se...
