VAN NUYS - It was a bit of deja vu for Gary J. Rankins Monday morning as he took the oath of office at the Van Nuys Army recruiting center.
More than 20 years after first enlisting in the US Army, Rankins, 40, did it again.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan's Supreme Court, stacked with appointees loyal to Gen. Pervez Musharraf, dismissed the last legal challenge to his re-election as president on Thursday, paving the way for his swearing-in to a second five-year term.
Presidential aides said Musharraf would abide by his pledge to step down as head of the army and become a civilian president when he takes the oath of office, which is expected in coming days.

Bob McDonnell took the oath of office as Virginia's 71st governor Saturday, beginning a new era of Republican leadership by paying homage to the state's rich history and pledging to build a "commonwealth of opportunity" in a time of economic and budget challenges.
McDonnell, 55, was sworn in on the steps of the sun-splashed Capitol, where thousands gathered in comfortable, mild weather to witness Virginia's quadrennial transfer of executive power.
