[Iraq] possesses and produces chemical and biological weapons," he told a crowd in Cincinnati four months before the war. "It is seeking nuclear weapons ... If we know Saddam Hussein has dangerous weapons today-and we do [sic]-does it make any sense for the world to wait to confront him as he grows even stronger and develops even more dangerous weapons?" If the U.S. invasion force had found stockpiles of biological, chemical or nuclear weapons in Iraq, we could have claimed victory. Although critics would have remained disgusted with the sleazy origins of this roll-the-dice waii we would have been forced to concede that [Bush] had validated his policy of pre-emption. "The United States has removed a tyrant it helped to install and maintained in power for decades," Bush would have said,...
The film's release had already been delayed by six weeks due to safety concerns, as one critical scene depicted the rape of one of the boys and filmmakers worried that a public outcry could make the children targets of attack. The announcement came amid serious controversy over Iran's nuclear program, with the international community threatening sanctions or even invasion.\n The workers, the majority of whom were from South Asia, blocked roads and threw stones at the police. The move came after the UAE instituted an export-control law in September that was designed to stop companies from using the UAE as a transit point for material that could be used in nuclear weapons or in explosives against American troops in Afghanistan or Iraq.
CIA reveals details of Saddam's disastrous bluff The most incredible revelation in the new CIA report on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction is not that there were no biological, chemical or nuclear weapons in Iraq. We knew that. It is that Saddam Hussein deceived the world -- even members of his own regime -- into believing he had WMD in order to deter Iran.
Back then, many journalists reported in lockstep with White House statements about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein's ties to al Qaeda and his involvement in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. [...] reviews are mixed on how the media are helping Americans-and the rest of the world-sort out fact from propaganda regarding the Bush administration's charges that Iran is building a nuclear arsenal and supplying weapons to kill Americans in Iraq. "Journalistic courage should include the refusal to publish in a newspaper or carry on a TV or radio news show any statements made by the President or any other government official that are designed solely as a public relations tool, offering no new or valuable information to the public," Pincus wrote.
Afghanistan, Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, Iranian nuclear weapons - they dominated elections in recent years, but they're nowhere to be found in this year's broad national campaign debate. For the first time since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the national U.S. election will not hinge on security. But the shift to economic issues does not seem to be helping Democrats as much as history and conventional wisdom would suggest.
In a recent Republican debate, GOP White House hopefuls touched upon President Obama's failure to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. In my opinion, if Mr. Obama is re-elected, Iran will get nuclear weapons. Why? Mr. Obama refuses to stand up to the ayatollahs; is retreating in Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya; and is abandoning our allies in the region to Iran. As Mr. Obama withdraws for personal political reasons, our allies are being forced to come to terms with the ayatollahs who dominate Iran. Mr. Obama is sacrificing our country's interests overseas for his re-election priorities, just as he is sacrificing the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline project for the same end. He does this, in both cases, against the best interests of the American people and our country.
THE most incredible revelation in the new CIA report on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction is not that there were no biological, chemical or nuclear weapons in Iraq. We knew that. It is that Saddam Hussein deliberately deceived the world even members of his own regime into believing he still had WMD in order to deter Iran.

The key word here is "pre-emptively," Hitting First contends. Pre-emption usually means that if troops are massing on your border, you can attack before they invade. But if you attack much earlier - when the troops are training, say - you aren't acting "pre-emptively" at all. Your action is "preventive" instead. And that's a different matter entirely, says [William Keller], because "You can't distinguish preventive war from naked aggression in most cases. Administration critics will enjoy seeing contributors like Rodger A. Payne replay flawed administration claims about Iraqi WMD. In light of current events, its almost amusing to be reminded of [Dick Cheney]'s pre-war claims that Iraq "has been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons" and that it "has, in fact, reconsti...
When Ayatollah Khomeini's Islamic revolution engulfed Iran, what did he do? He called the nuclear program "the work of the devil" and closed it down. It was only when Saddam Hussein invaded Iran the following year and began showering Iran with missiles and chemical weapons - an invasion supported by "us" - that the clerical regime decided they may have to use nuclear weapons against Iraq and reopened the complex. In other words, it was the West which supported Iran's original nuclear program and it was closed by the chief divine of [George W Bush]'s "axis of evil" and then reopened when the West stood behind Saddam (in the days when he was "our strongman" rather than our caged prisoner in a dying state). Fried took the risky step of quoting the French historian Alexis de Tocqueville to ...
