NO ONE disputes that life aboard an aircraft carrier can be stressful, boring and difficult. Make that a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier serving during wartime and it's exponentially worse. Crew members need diversions. They need entertainment. They need their commanding officers to rally them. But they don't need weekly home movies made by their executive officer that play to base instincts, encourage homophobia, joke about bestiality and mimic pornography.

The captain of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise has been removed from his command because of videos he made several years ago containing foul language, sexual innuendo and anti-gay slurs. A statement from U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., said Tuesday that Capt. Owen P. NORFOLK, Va. - The Navy said Sunday it will investigate "clearly inappropriate" videos broadcast to the crew of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in which a top officer of the ship used gay slurs, mimicked masturbation and opened the shower curtain on women pretending to bathe together. The star of the videos, made in 2006 and 2007, is a former Top Gun pilot who now commands the same ship, the Norfolk-based USS Enterprise, which was deployed in the Middle East at the time and is weeks from deploying again.
