In its first comprehensive energy review since the Fukushima disaster, Japan said Friday that it would seek to phase out nuclear power by the end of the 2030s. Although the move heralded the end of nuclear energy in the country, it would come only after a longer- than-expected transition to give power companies decades to recoup their investments and brace for a non-nuclear future.
