Before Carl Friedrich Gauss was even born, Abraham deMoivre used the Gaussian distribution in 1733 to approximate the binomial distribution. In the early 1800s, while supervising a surveying project, Gauss observed that the average of repeated measurements tends to have a bell shaped distribution. While some definitions are neutral, others suggest it is bad to be non-normal. Whoever first applied the normal label to the Gaussian distribution could have had neutral intent, but today's typical presentation of the normal distribution in Six Sigma training is far from neutral. NORMAL - A Normal man armed with what later was found to be an air rifle was shot by Normal police Wednesday morning at an apartment in the 500 block of East College Ave., state police said Wednesday night. His injury is not considered life threatening at this time," state police Lt. Tad Williams said in a statement issued Wednesday night. The man was taken to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, but additional information on his identity and condition was not available Wednesday night.
