More than 10.000 documents for Noon Monday
  • Maine Sen. Susan Collins signed a subpoena Tuesday to force the Defense Department to release all documents related to base-closing recommendations, setting up a confrontation with the Pentagon over how much it must share with Congress and the public. Collins, the Republican chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, set a deadline of noon Monday for defense officials to turn over the documents. She held out hope, however, that the Pentagon would comply with the demand rather than fight the subpoena. This process is supposed to be a transparent one, it's supposed to be an open process, and it's been very frustrating that the department has been so slow in releasing vital information," Collins said.

  • BRANFORD -- Route 146, Stony Creek Road, is closed at the Tilcon railroad crossing through noon Monday. The closure will allow for railroad crossing and road improvements in compliance with state Department of Transportation requirements. The railroad crossing improvement project between Tilcon Connecticut Inc. and the DOT will result in a new rubber-decked railroad crossing as well as improved roadway grade and drainage.

  • The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday ordered that former state Sen. Gene Stipe, D-McAlester, report to a federal prison medical facility for a mental evaluation by noon Monday. The appellate court also turned down Stipe's motion for a stay of a district court's order calling for the examination.

  • Peace vigil on the steps at noon every Monday, and the church serves a meal each Tuesday night at the Parish House at Center Church for the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen. "It's part of the Methodist tradition to be welcoming and friendly," Lamar-Sterling says. "At the Park Avenue church, people told me they came because it was the friendly one in town. We welcome people as they are. She has found the church community to be very open and friendly to her ministry as well. In fact, she's really the first woman pastor to be long-term at the church (there was another woman some years ago, but she only stayed for a very short time), and, at 37, but looking more like a teenager, she's one of the youngest pastors they've had.

  • Though summer is only a day away, a winter weather advisory has been issued for the higher elevations around Pikes Peak. The advisory, issued for all of Colorado's central mountains above 11,000 feet, is in effect until noon Monday.

  • EVERY Monday for more than 6 1/2 years, we have witnessed for peace on the front steps of First and Summerfield United Methodist Church at the corner of College and Elm streets in New Haven. There are times when it is difficult for some of the regulars to be present, but usually six to 12 people, at least, attend. There are times when it is difficult because College Street is closed because of some event on the Green. That is always true during Yale University's commencement ceremony. Although it is more difficult to get there, this is the day that we have a highly visible prayer witness.
