General Motors' Environmental Activities Staff (EAS) has established a Xerox Ethernet communications system as its internal network. It currently consists of 166 of Xerox's 820-II and a communications server. EAS is responsible for coordinating worldwide GM efforts for vechicle safety, auto-emission and noise control, and manufacturing plant pollution control. EAS uses electronic mail systems internationally, providing immediate access to new regulations and centralized compilation of interpretations. The personal computers at EAS can access the relational data bases for information and avoid hours of research time. The network is also used for project management.
