AUBURN -- Former Lewiston resident Kathleen Schidzig has pleaded no contest to welfare fraud and forgery, allowing her to avoid making an admission of guilt while acknowledging she could be found guilty at trial by a reasonable judge or jury. The plea will be recorded as a conviction of guilt in court records. Schidzig, 31, was scheduled for trial in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Monday, but made a plea agreement with the Attorney General's Office before the jury was selected. According to court records, she was facing felony charges of fraud and forgery, and three misdemeanor charges of unsworn falsification, for allegedly false statements she attested to on various Department of Health and Human Services applications for social services.
DOVER-FOXCROFT - A Shirley man who said in November that he had sexually abused two young girls hired to clean his former Dover- Foxcroft barbershop was sentenced Monday to serve the next 10 years behind bars. Donald Denbow, 68, pleaded no contest in November to 13 counts of gross sexual assault and one count of sexual abuse of a minor. He was sentenced in Piscataquis County Superior Court to 20 years in prison on the first count of gross sexual assault, with all but 10 years suspended.

TORRANCE - A 23-year-old Rancho Palos Verdes man charged in vandalism hate crimes of two well-known Long Beach gay establishments and one Redondo Beach gay bar is expected to be sentenced to more than four years in prison. In a plea agreement Monday at Torrance Superior Court, Olivier Saintvictor entered a plea of no contest. He initially had entered a plea of not guilty earlier this year.

Prominent Roanoke defense attorney Tony Anderson pleaded no contest Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated in connection with a Feb. 5 car wreck that injured his wife. Anderson had been facing a more serious drunken-driving charge based on a police report that his blood-alcohol content was 0.18 percent, more than twice Virginia's legal limit.
