An off-duty Buffalo police officer who shot and killed one intruder and seriously wounded another inside his home in April has been cleared by an Erie County grand jury, authorities confirmed late Friday.
The grand jury handed up a "no bill" in the case involving Officer Charles E. Gidney Sr., who shot the two intruders inside his home in the city's Bailey-Kensington area.

The 1,000-page-plus climate-change bill the House passed last week, as was the case with President Obama's economic stimulus bill, was written with very little time for many to have read the final version. And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, doesn't have any intention of changing that with upcoming health care legislation.

DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco made a convincing case, but the Board of Supervisors still said no Wednesday to his request for three new detectives - at least until the spring.
County Admin. Michael Garriga told supervisors that he felt the additional $186,000 to pay three additional officers could be found, but it would be best to wait until February or March to make sure the county's revenue projections were accurate.
