LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - Royal Dutch/Shell's Nigerian unit has shut down two oil platforms producing 35,000 barrels per day in the Niger Delta after protesters armed with machetes barricaded the facility, the company said Wednesday.
The trouble came as oil unions in the world's seventh-largest crude exporter held talks with the Labor Ministry over threats to launch a strike in southern Nigeria. Union officials said they agreed to put off the strike until at least Friday, when Nigeria's two big oil unions will meet again in the southern city of Port Harcourt.
