  • SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Serena Jenkins hammered 20 kills as the Columbia College volleyball team shocked top-seeded Lee, Tenn., University 25-11, 25-19, 25-17 today in the semifinals of the NAIA Tournament at the Tyson Events Center. With Vensa Trivunovic, one of the top hitters in the nation, held off the scoresheet through the first two sets, Jenkins and Nicole Murphy (13 kills, three blocks) picked up the slack for Columbia. Setter Paula Ferreira collected 40 assists as the Cougars combined for 52 kills and just 10 hitting errors.

  • The Columbia College volleyball team opened the NAIA Tournament with 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 sweep of Point Loma Nazarene yesterday in Sioux City, Iowa. The fifth-seeded Cougars (36-3) got 10 kills from Vesna Trivunovic, nine from Kelly Corkum and seven each from Ola Shawky and Nicole Murphy. Paula Ferreira contributed 31 assists and Serena Jenkins made 17 digs.

  • ORRINGTON - Emily Cox pitched a no-hit shutout with 17 strikeouts to lead Orrington by Lincoln 6-0 in a District 3 Little League All- Star softball game for ages 11-12 Saturday. Autumn St. John hit two singles, a double and drove in a run while Nicole Murphy added a double and a single for Orrington.

  • Serena Jenkins finished with 17 kills and 13 digs to lead the third-ranked Columbia College volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-23, 28- 30, 25-18 victory over No. 17 Missouri Baptist last night in St. Louis. Paula Ferreira, who was named the NAIA player of the week on Tuesday, dished out 58 assists while collecting five kills and 10 digs for the Cougars (18-2, 8-0 American Midwest Conference). Vesna Trivunovic had 16 kills and three aces, Nicole Murphy added 13 kills and three aces and Aleah Hayes collected 12 digs against the Spartans (23-3, 7-2).

Vesna Trivunovic finished with a match-high 24 kills and 11 digs to lead the Cougars (11-2). Serena Jenkins also had a double-double with 10 kills and 21 digs, Nicole Murphy had eight kills and Paula Ferreira finished with 45 assists, but Columbia fell to the Scorpions for the second time this season. Tally Mattos led the team with 32 digs.

  • No word yet on whether [Nicole Murphy] wants "half!" in her split from husband [Eddie Murphy], but the actor must have thought about his famous alimony bit from "Raw" when finding out that his wife is seeking, among other things, "spousal support" in their divorce after 12 years of marriage.
