WOOD-RIDGE -- The borough, the Board of Education, the Archdiocese of Newark and a private developer are negotiating a shared services arrangement under which a closed Catholic school would be used to add needed classroom space to the crowded school district. Members of the Borough Council and Board of Education met in closed session Tuesday to outline discussions that have taken place among the borough, the Archdiocese of Newark and the pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Church, officials said.
We interpret R.C. 3319.111(B)(3) and Thomas v. Board of Education of the Newark City School District to allow an evaluator to incorporate by reference a prior document into a teacher's evaluation.
NEWARK FBI agents arrested a former Paterson Board of Education president Wednesday on federal bribery charges, stemming from last year's corruption sting that toppled 11 former public officials, including former Passaic Mayor Sammy Rivera and three others from Passaic County, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. But the arrest of Chauncey I. Brown III happened shortly after an attorney for Jonathan Soto, a former Passaic city councilman, also nabbed in last year's FBI sting, filed a motion claiming that the former school board member entrapped Soto, 33, into accepting bribes from the federal agents who wined and dined him at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.

MOUNT LAUREL The state Education Department is preparing to return some control to school districts in New Jersey's two largest cities. The Jersey City school board should regain control of school governance and finances and the Newark board should resume oversight of operations management, Education Commissioner Lucille E. Davy announced Tuesday. Both decisions need approval of the state Board of Education before they become final.
