State funding targeting variety of regional projects The New York State Housing Finance Agency and the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation recently approved about $1.4 million in financing and grants locally to build and rehabilitate affordable homes, create jobs and stimulate local economies.
This initiative will create new, affordable, high-quality housing opportunities for families by rehabilitating vacant and abandoned buildings and making them available to renters and first-time homebuyers," [David Paterson] said. "Too many abandoned and neglected properties are eroding the quality of life in communities throughout upstate. The Sustainable Neighborhoods program will serve as a national model for turning these distressed properties into quality, affordable housing, creating jobs and boosting the upstate economy. Nonprofit organizations, local government and municipal housing authorities may apply for funds through the State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) and the New York State Housing Finance Agency (HFA).

State funding targets variety of regional projects The New York State Housing Finance Agency and the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation recently approved about $1.4 million in financing and grants locally to build and rehabilitate affordable homes, create jobs and stimulate local economies.
The New York State Affordable Housing Corp. has approved $825,000 in grants to three organizations to renovate 108 homes in Western New York. The state agency, a subsidiary of the New York State Housing Finance Agency, is providing $300,000 to the Southtowns Rural Preservation Co. to pay for improvements to 50 owner-occupied homes in southern Erie County.
A recently passed piece of legislation could place more emphasis on concepts such as revitalizing downtowns, protecting natural resources and promoting mixed use development and public transportation when it comes to state-sponsored infrastructure projects. The State Smart Growth Infrastructure Policy Act directs the Department of Transportation, the Department of Education, the New York State Housing Finance Agency and other agencies to prioritize the funding of infrastructure and projects consistent with smart growth principals and with local governments' plans for development.
AS IF THE Housing industry needed one more roadblock to recovery, along comes the Home Valuation Code of Conduct , the result of a joint agreement between Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, the Federal Housing Finance Agency and New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. The code applies only to government-owned Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which owns or backs about two-thirds of all new home loans in the U.S.
